Experimental jazz artist Jen Shyu brings Chinese labor narratives from 19th-century colonial Cuba and other stories to life through ritual invocation, long-form composition, and improvisation in works from her latest album, Jade Tongue. Joined by a stellar jazz ensemble, Shyu sings, dances, and plays piano, in addition to the two-stringed moon guitar, which she learned in the villages of Hengchun and Manjou, Taiwan. More
