In this mesmerizing world premiere, the artist CLIFFORD ROSS teams up with NYC-based chamber ensemble ORCHESTRA OF ST LUKE’S to bring us a massive, site-specific, multi-screen installation with a varied and transportive suite of live music. Ross, whose work evokes “profound vitality and pleasure,” (Art in America) has gained notoriety for his ambitious, large-scale endeavors and technological innovations. While developing the piece Harmonium Mountain, he worked with animators to enhance a single high resolution photograph of a landscape with 3D computer-generated elements.
St. Luke’s is an ensemble marked by “roving curiosity” and “stylistic flexibility,” (NY Times) and a linchpin of the New York chamber music scene. Equally at home interpreting newly commissioned works and the central European canon, they are fast-rising musical omnivores with a knack for unconventional programming. To accompany Harmonium Mountain, Ross and St. Luke’s have devised a program featuring works by Antonio Vivaldi, John Adams, Bryce Dessner, and Wojciech Kilar, including excerpts from Vivaldi’s celebrated “The Four Seasons” and Adams’ “Shaker Loops.”
