The LC Kids season of free programming at the Atrium kicks off with a story-and-music double feature. We begin with a tale of fear and bravery by beloved astronaut Chris Hadfield and a pop music celebration of home by this year’s Grammy Award–winning band for Best Children’s Album.
Storytime at the Atrium: The Darkest Dark by Chris Hadfield
From astronaut, bestselling author, and social media superstar Chris Hadfield, a story about embracing your fears and following your dreams.
Chris loves rockets and planets and pretending he’s a brave astronaut, exploring the universe. Only one problem—at night, Chris doesn’t feel so brave. He’s afraid of the dark. But when he watches the groundbreaking moon landing on TV, he realizes that space is the darkest dark there is—and the dark is beautiful and exciting, especially when you have big dreams to keep you company.
LC Kids Storytime at the Atrium is presented in collaboration with Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.

It was released in the fall of 2015 alongside a multi-city tour. The lead single, “Breakfast Club,” reached the top of the Sirius XM Kids Place Live charts. Tim and his band of Space Cadets have played sold-out shows at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn Bowl, Symphony Space, Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk, and the Smithsonian.
