Scandinavian Music Festival

The Scandinavian Music Festival in Fort Tryon Park is a unique series of three outdoor summer concerts performed by musicians of the Scandia Symphony and guest artists.  The concerts take place in a scenic and attractive venue, on Billings Lawn, below the Heather Gardens and with spectacular views of Hudson River. In this natural setting, our site also offers a beautiful acoustic environment, providing possibilities of clear and defined sound projection, so this is a great inspiration to our musicians as well. The artists speak to the audience as they introduce musical characteristics, history and culture of the compositions they perform. Details are also provided in the program booklet. Since its inception in 2005, the Scandinavian Music Festival has served the neighborhoods of Washington Heights, Inwood and Hudson Heights.  The summer concert series have gained much support and involvement from the community and attendance at the events is growing every year. The Scandinavian Music Festival has become a highlight of the summer and brings together people from all walks of life, connecting them to high quality music they might otherwise not be able to afford..

For the past 10 years, the festival has served the neighborhoods of Washington Heights and Inwood with free outdoor music programs.  On June 14th, the Scandia String Orchestra will open the festival with featured works by Carl Nielson, Jean Sibelius, Niels V. Gade, Edvard Grieg and Lars-Erik Larsson. Bring a blanket and take in the beautiful Hudson River views during this concert performed by musicians of the Scandia Symphony and guest artists.
