Roger Guenveur Smith adapted his Obie Award-winning solo performance of A Huey P. Newtown Story into a Peabody Award-winning telefilm. His Bessie Award-winning “Rodney King” is the latest addition to a distinguished body of historically inspired work which also includes Frederick Douglass Now, Who Killed Bob Marley?, Juan and John, Iceland, In Honor of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Christopher Columbus 1992, Two Fires, The Watts Towers Project, and Inside the Creole Mafia. His many screen credits include the classic Do The Right Thing; American Gangster, for which he was nominated for a Screen Actors’ Guild Award; the recently acclaimed CHI-RAQ, and Dope; and the greatly anticipated Birth of a Nation.
