Northern Beat: Broken Social Scene, Melissa Leveaux, The East Pointers

Every movement has a touchstone sound or work. At the center of the indie rock Torontopia movement that shook the world was Broken Social Scene, an amorphous collective that melds baroque pop with experimental elements, and their 2002 album You Forgot It in People. The band is ever-changing but still around and kicking. They’ll be celebrating Canada Day with Mélissa Laveaux, a force of nature who intersperses finger-picked roots and folk guitar with spellbinding vocals and folk group, The East Pointers.
