Mutual Crush VI: The Silver State (solo), Lea Thomas, Sunshine

A series by Mutual Crush Records that invites artists to play solo, often outside of the context of their bands. Experimentation, workshopping, and demos-in-progress—are encouraged.

Caleb Lindskoog writes vivid, narrative folk songs, which often draw upon fictional stories to explore transience, transformation, existential wonder, and love. Of Caleb’s last album, “Outside” by The Silver State, Stereogum described it as a “quiet psych act specializing in dreamy vast-landscape folk-rock more befitting the American West than the band’s native Brooklyn.” Caleb is working on another full-length album, which will be released in 2017. It will be the band’s third LP.

Lea Thomas’ deep love for the wild and weathered is evident in all she does, from textiles woven on a home loom, to hand-harvested plant medicines, and certainly in her songwriting. Raised in Maui and now based in Brooklyn, she is inspired by nature and tells stories that explore emotional landscapes as mirrored by the physical terrains of our environment. Shimmery guitars, layered vocal harmonies, and the gripping ache for simply being, rise up from her folk-inspired songs and claim memorable spaces of their own. Lea’s debut full length album, Want for Nothing, comes out on Tacky Records January 2017
