Characterized by his improvisational style and elaborate compositions, Thelonious Monk was a herald of bebop and a jazz innovator. This annual jazz music event counts down to Monk’s 100th birthday with two performances, a mid-day concert featuring renowned pianist Elio Villafranca and the James Weidman Trio, and a three hour mini-marathon with Jazz House Kids, David Weiss Sextet, Renee Rosnes Quartet, and Grammy Award-winning Arturo O’Farrill and His Tiny Afro-Latin Big Band.
