Havana-born artist Melvis Santa made a splash on the Cuban musical scene at 14, when she founded the collective Sexto Sentido—a project that jazz great Chucho Valdés deemed “the best Cuban vocal quartet of the past 30 years.” The multitalented singer, composer, pianist, Afro-Cuban dancer, actress, and educator went on to perform at the historic Minton’s Playhouse jazz club, Birdland, and the Zinc Bar, among other storied music venues. Santa, a 2018 Grammy nominee for Best Latin Jazz Album, now brings her band’s rich palette of Latin sounds to the Atrium with their new project, Ashedí.
