Leitkultur presents Rama, Kids Want Techno, Mike Guimond

Mike Guimond is a twenty one year old DJ living in New York City. Learning how to spin at house parties, he slowly gained the basics of mixing throughout his teenage years in the United States.

Mike moved to Florence, Italy for his freshman year of college where he was able to utilize the small city’s nightlife scene to hone his skills as a DJ and effectively learn how to read a crowd at the young age of eighteen. Spinning at many of the city’s finest establishments (Space, Blue Velvet, and FullUp just to name a few), he became a rising figure in the Florence nightlife scene.

Growing up in New York, New York and attending New York University, Mike continued his endeavors as a sophomore in the big apple. Spinning at staple East and West Village nightclubs like Babel and Le Souk, Mike built a following of deep and tech-house lovers alike going out in the vibrant Greenwich Village.

Mike chased his love for underground electronic music by spending his junior year of college in Berlin, Germany. There, his gig performances changed from the glamorous New York City club scene to the notorious dark and eclectic Berlin one-off events. Spinning at techno bunker parties, squat parties, illegal warehouse parties and outdoor ‘open airs’, Mike quickly realized that the party doesn’t have to start at ten o’clock in the evening and end at four o’clock in the morning. Offering to take on as many opening and closing sets as possible, he spent hours in record stores trying to find new music in a city ripe with electronic talent, and countless nights behind the decks at what he refers to as, “some of the weirdest yet most brilliant nights of my life”.

Mike is finishing his college career in New York City with the creation of his very own artist collective, Leitkultur. Plain and simple, Leitkultur is a party, but an ephemeral party at that. Leitkultur aims to infuse literature, performance, photography, crafts, new media and sculpture with forward-thinking music and break down the artistic societal barriers currently erect with his Leitkultur events.
