David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center, Frieda and Roy Furman Stage
Lincoln Center and the Independent Music Awards present an evening of performances by two 2014 IMA winners: Rabbit Rabbit and Rocket & The Ghost.
Hailing from Woods Hole, Massachusetts, husband and wife team Rabbit Rabbit is vocalist/violinist Carla Kihlstedt and multi-instrumentalist Matthias Bossi. Drawing influence from art and folk song as well as improvised and industrial music, the duo spins balladry both structurally sparse and emotionally rich. Winners of this year’s Independent Music Award for Eclectic Song, Rabbit Rabbit is a leader in the post-label world of self-releases, each month offering a new song plus video, photos, and more to their subscribers. VisitRabbitRabbitRadio.com for more information.
Brooklyn based indie rockers Rocket & The Ghost name Elvis, The Beatles, Tom Waits, Lou Reed, and The Pixies as among their numerous influences. Winners of the 2014 Independent Music Award for Love Song, the quintet raised the money for their first LP by saving. They feel if the money is “never recouped, it will still be worth it.” Rocket & The Ghost is Kiyoshi Matsuyama (vocals, guitar), Brian Kesley (bass), Stuart Bidwell (drums), Sean Gavigan (guitars), and Lily Claire (vocals and keyboards).
The Independent Music Awards is the only international program that connects artists to new revenue opportunities and an audience of more than 1 billion fans. Leveraging its unrivaled access to performance, promotion, and distribution opportunities, the IMAs place winners and nominees in front of talent buyers, film representatives, TV and gaming music supervisors, media outlets, and licensing opportunities. Judges for the 13th annual IMAs included Laurie Anderson, Meshell Ndegeocello, The Wood Brothers, Shelby Lynne, Joshua Redman, Suzanne Vega, and others.
