The songs on Dear God feature one singer with one accompanying instrument. There are some exceptions, but on the whole, the record captures the dynamic sound Hamilton Leithauser & Paul Maroon create with an minimal lineup. The duo recently traveled across the UK, performing in pubs and small theaters. The concerts were intimate and lively. When they returned home they set up in a living room in Washington, DC and recorded these songs themselves. The result was the 12-song Dear God.
There are four cover songs, written by VF Stewart, Tom Paxton, Will Oldham, and Don Gibson. All of the others were written for this minimal lineup.
Hamilton Leithauser lives in New York city. Paul Maroon lives in Baltimore, MD but his heart is in New Orleans.
