This second installment of Brooklyn’s new jazz festival will celebrate some of the most exciting globe-trotting jazz legends, as well as a huge crop of groundbreaking new jazz artists from Brooklyn and beyond. The festival culminates in a multi-night marathon with ensembles performing overlapping sets spanning the BRIC House Ballroom, the Stoop overlooking the Gallery, and a jazz club inside the Artist Studio.
Each evening is designed so you can move freely among performances and catch some or all of the artists each night while enjoying great food and drink from our café and bar.
David Murray Infinity Quartet

“A giant of the jazz avant-garde with a distinctive tone on tenor,” (AllMusic) David Murray brings his quartet to close out BRIC JazzFest Marathon: Night 1.
Players include Orrin Evans (piano), David Murray (sax), Jaribu Shahid (bass), and Nasheet Waits (drums).
Ben Allison & Think Free

Jazz bassist Ben Allison “has set himself apart from the New York City jazz pack, where the demand for his singular—often, unconventional— style has led to work on more than 50 albums with a wide array of artists.” (Bass Player)
Players include Ben Allison (bass), Steve Cardenas (guitar), Allison Miller (drums), and Jeremy Pelt (trumpet).
Taylor McFerrin & Marcus Gilmore

Taylor McFerrin, son of the legendary Bobby McFerrin, has made his own mark in the jazz scene, as he “lets his instrumental chops do the talking, crafting lush soundscapes via his various keyboards within which he then incorporates a number of hip hop-indebted touches.” (PopMatters) His partner in this BRIC JazzFest show is jazz drummer Marcus Gilmore, known for his family ties (grandfather is Roy Haynes) as well as his “Rising Star” status (DownBeat).
Krystle Warren

Kansas City-born, Paris-based Krystle Warren is bringing her “astonishingly soulful, jazz-tinged voice and her captivating stage presence” (The Australian) to BRIC JazzFest this fall—get ready!
Jason Marshall
9:10-10:15PM, Studio
“Highly sought after and [an] established fixture on the global music landscape,” (Harlem Jazz Boxx) baritone saxophonist Jason Marshall gained widespread recognition early in his career, and continues to perform with jazz legends to this day.
Inyang Bassey w/ special guest Binky Griptite

Vocalist Inyang Bassey made a name for herself as a back-up singer for Moby, where she often displayed her “powerful and soulful voice” (Brooklyn Vegan) on stage.
Players include Inyang Bassey (vocals), Danton Boller (bass), Binky Griptite (guitar), Yuval Lion (drums), and Yusuke Yamamoto (keys “electro magic”).
Michael Leonhart Orchestra
8-9PM, Ballroom
In 1992, when Michael Leonhart received his first Grammy—for Outstanding High School Musician—The New York Times called him “a serious swinger” and said he played jazz trumpet with “elegant eloquence.” In the 20-plus years since then, Leonhart has played with Steely Dan, James Brown, and on the Grammy Award-winning smash “Uptown Funk,” by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars.
Kenyatta Beasley

Award winning trumpeter/composer Kenyatta Beasley began playing the trumpet at the age of three and has gone on to acclaim as a performer and composer, writing music for more than 20 short films, three feature films, and countless television and radio ads.
Players include Kenyatta Beasley (trumpet), Dezron Douglas (bass), Alvester Garnett (drums), Keith Loftis (tenor sax), and Anthony Wonsey (piano).
Bria Skonberg

Singer and jazz trumpeter Bria Skonberg is “poised to be one of the most versatile and imposing musicians of her generation,” (Wall Street Journal) and she’ll be performing songs from her new album (out Sept. 23) at BRIC JazzFest.
