Adrianna Mateo – new music violinist, pop/rock singer-songwriter, and writer – has performed solo at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, American Museum of Natural History, Living Room, Pianos, internationally in Africa and Asia, and TimesCenter’s main stage in collaboration with DJ Spooky. She was hailed as “triumphant” by TimeOut New York for her Bang on a Can Marathon debut last summer: the only solo on the 8-hour all-star lineup that featured Meredith Monk.
Known for her performance flair, integrity, ingenuity, and audacity, Adrianna is comfortable at the helm of large creative projects. In the last 6 months, she performed her second run of shows at the Met Museum (for which she coordinated 11 people, commissioning 2 pieces and performing a 3-hour show of solo and chamber music works); conducted orchestral premieres at Merkin Concert Hall and the DiMenna Center; was appointed concertmaster of the LITHA summer orchestra; ran a successful 10K Kickstarter campaign for her first album, which was supported by composers David Lang, Nico Muhly, and Bora Yoon and violinists Tim Fain (Black Swan; Philip Glass), Chrysanthe Tan (Ariana Grande), and Sean Mackin (YellowCard); and art-directed, coordinated, and produced the 15-person crew album photoshoot.
Adrianna’s growing body of work includes numerous solo violin recordings, an original single and three vocal demos (self-accompanied on electric guitar, ukeleles, and piano), four self-produced photoshoots, two commercials slated for national release (recorded violin, modeling), a music video, an increasing mass of creative and critical writing, and six actively updated social media channels.
Adrianna is the Kaufman Center’s youngest faculty member (coach, conductor, and performer, Special Music School High School and Face the Music); her students’ accomplishments include performances with the Kronos Quartet at Carnegie Hall. Her ensemble credits include performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Rockwood Music Hall, and the Mercury Lounge as well as recordings for Philip Glass and with Grammy Award-winning producer David Starobin. Adrianna studied with Renée Jolles, a current concertmaster and core member of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, at the Aaron Copland School of Music (2013, B.Mus and French minor).
