Introduced to the United States by Silvana Magda, Lavagem da Rua is a sacred Brazilian tradition that translates as “the cleansing of streets.” African diasporic tradition acknowledges the road as a metaphor for the journey of life. The Caribbean Cultural Center brings together artists representing countries of the diaspora including Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad, Haiti, Puerto Rico, and more to reflect the different roads of song, music, and dance travelled on the path to a joyful destiny.
