The 2009 Charlie Parker Jazz Festival was a two day event taking place on August 29 in Marcus Garvey Park and August 30 in Tompkins Square Park. The festival pays homage to Charlie Parker, the saxophonist that changed jazz. This year’s festival featured performances by Frank Wess Quintet, Gary Bartz Project with Special Guest Bilal, José James, Benny Reid, Cedar Walton Quartet, Papo Vazquez Pirates Troubadores, Pyeng Threadgill, Dred Scott Trio. That’s a lot of great jazz for free.
