After more than 40 years, 40 albums, and 6 million records sold, Grammy Award-winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo remains one of the preeminent à capella groups in the world. Together since the early 1960s, this South African ensemble draws inspiration from isicathamiya, a traditional musical style developed in South Africa by poor black miners during Apartheid. Performing with Paul Simon on his 1986 album Graceland, the group took the world by storm, thrilling audiences with their ecstatic harmonies and foot-stomping enthusiasm. Since then, they’ve collaborated with Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Mavis Staples, and Ben Harper. Self-proclaimed South African ambassadors, Ladysmith Black Mambazo are finally making their BAM R&B Festival at Metrotech debut. (Source)
