New York Philharmonic has Announced Jaap van Zweden as Next Music Director

New York Philharmonic has announced this past Wednesday that Jaap van Zweden will be the next music director beginning in the 2018–19 season. Until then Mr. van Zweden will be the music director designate for the 2017–18 season.

Jaap van Zweden is currently the music director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. He is placing the current music director of the New York Philharmonic Alan Gilbert who is stepping down next year.

New York City’s free concert goers would be familiar with Alan Gilbert and his work. He has lead the NY Philharmonic at the annual Concerts in the Parks series, Memorial Day Concert and has made appearances at Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium.
