Ladies of Hip Hop

Ladies of Hip Hop (LOHH) is the brainchild of Michele Byrd-McPhee (executive director and founder), a self-taught hip hop dance forerunner and longtime feminist. She got her start in street dance as it took shape in the clubs that she frequented while growing up. The organization was established in 2004 with the goal of giving women an outlet to dance uninhibitedly and be themselves without the constraints of the male-dominated hip hop world infringing on them. LOHH is a steadfast force in the world of hip hop dance, that provides a constructive outlet for girls and women to proudly display their work. This progressive union of art and egalitarian philosophy also offers liberating workshops, artist exchange programs and inspiring and educational public talks. LOHH is expanding rapidly too; with events all over the US and Europe (Vienna, Sweden), they have burgeoning chapters in Canada and all the way across the globe in China. Bryd-McPhee carefully curates the LOHH participants, presenting a sterling showing of unbridled energy and heartfelt pieces.
