CREED with live score by Wordless Music Orchestra, Frank Haye & the Brooklyn Interdenominational Choir

Thirty-nine years after the classic drama Rocky first hit theaters, the seventh installment CREED (2015) breathes new life into this story of underdogs and redemption. Starring Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan, the film has been hailed as “an invigorating piece of nostalgia.” (The Atlantic) Stallone was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, his first since the original film.

Brooklyn collective WORDLESS MUSIC ORCHESTRA, conducted onstage by the score’s composer, Ludwig Goransson, performs the original score live along with the film. The orchestra has gained notoriety and acclaim for its unconventional programming, blurring the lines between contemporary classical music, indie rock, and electronica. Alex Ross of The New York Times said, simply, “At the moment, there is no more inventive music series in New York.” They return after their sensational rendition of the Beasts of the Southern Wild score in 2013.

FRANK HAYE & THE BROOKLYN INTERDENOMINATIONAL CHOIR begin the evening with jubilant gospel music. Haye and the choir are a New York institution, performing at Lincoln Center, BAM, and at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting with Aretha Franklin. During the film, the choir will join Wordless and Goransson for a few vocal numbers.  (Rain Date 8/6)
