5-25-14 LOISAIDA FESTIVAL ITINERARY

1. Mariachi Flor de Toloache is the first and only established all female mariachi band founded in New York city in 2008 by Mireya I. Ramos. Originally a trio, the band has grown to 10 members with all the essential and traditional instruments, violins, trumpets, guitarron (bass), vihuela (5 string guitar) and guitar. In addition, each members’ cultural background adds even more diversity to their already unique sound and appearance as an all women band spanning the globe from Puerto Rico, to Mexico, Singapore, Germany, Cuba, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and the United States.

Their goal of representing Mexican music and adding their own edgy and versatile sound comes together incredibly naturally and seamlessly. Although as individuals their talent has allowed them to grace stages worldwide from stadiums to acclaimed theater venues, they perform together like a band of sisters, with grace and vibrant beauty casting a spell over their audiences like the legendary and magical Toloache flower that is still being used in Mexico as a love potion.

3.     Henry Fiol

Henry Fiol is an old master of the old and honorable salsa tradition. Born in New York City, co-founder of NYC-based band Saoco, conga-player, band-leader, and known for his elegant black and red dress style, Henry went solo in the late 1970′s, offering us a very danceable and unique salsa….heavy with Cuban-son influence, but with that unmistakable hybrid and humorous urban vibe.  Henry Fiol has well over 20 records under his belt and is an all-time favorite of salsa connoisseurs, specially among the NYC diaspora. LoisaidaFest is proud to have Henry performing on our Sunday concert!!!

4.     Mimi maura

MIMI MAURA lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina and San Juan, Puerto Rico. She won the prestigious award “Premios Gardel a la música” in 2002, in Argentina, for her album “Raices de Pasión”, and was nominated again in 2011 for “Dias de sol (special dub version)” and 2013 for “La Herida” a tribute to her father, the singer and composer Mike Acevedo.

Her band was founded with spouse Sergio Rotman -sax player for Los Fabulosos Cadillacs-offering a contemporary fusion of calypso, ska, rock-steady and traditional bolero, that makes for a trans-generational fun and distinctive sound.
